Vígszínház closed an extremely successful season in an extraordinary period

Csenge Szilágyi, Attila Vidnyánszky Jr., Csilla Radnay, Gábor Presser, Fruzsina Nagy, Dorottya Antóci and Péter Geszti were also awarded prizes at the seasonal meeting of the Vígszínház. The theatre is closing a very successful year: the total number of the visits to the theatre’s three stages was almost 97%, with 340,000 spectators attending the 543 performances of the season.

In recognition of the tradition, several artistic prizes were awarded at the seasonal meeting of the Vígszínház. The jury was chosen on the basis of a secret voting of the actors, who awarded the Ajtay Andor Memorial Prize for the best performance of the season to Csenge Szilágyi and Attila Vidnyánszky Jr. The "A kiscsillag is csillag prize" for the best supporting role, awarded in honor of István Szatmári, was won by Csilla Radnay. The jury awarded the Roboz Imre Artistic Memorial Prize to the artist from among the members of the Vígszínház who not only strengthened the artistic standing and reputation of the theatre with his or her creative achievements, but also with his or her work for community. This year the prize was awarded to Gábor Presser. The Venczel Vera Memorial Award, which was founded by György Czapp and is awarded to the best set designer of the season in even-numbered years and the best sign designer in odd-numbered years, was won by Fruzsina Nagy in 2023 for her work on The castle's costumes. On the basis of the secret votes of the actors, the best actress under 30 years of age was awarded the Irén Varsányi Memorial Prize to Dorottya Antóci.

A key aspect of the awarding of the Zsolt Harsányi Memorial Prize is that the recipient of the prize does a lot for the cultivation of the Hungarian language. This year, the prize was awarded to Péter Geszti, author of the script of The Jungle Book and the lyrics of The Paul Street Boys, for his virtuoso, insightful, poetic and gentle words to a wide audience.

For their dedicated work for the community, Henri Zoltán, head of furniture department, Mária Kuhnné Horváth Mária, head of wages and salaries, and Lászlóné Hodány, secretary of financial department were awarded the Vígszínház Prize. The Golden Rotary Award, presented by the worker’s council to honor artistic and colleagues from administration, was awarded to Andrea Ferencziné Orosz, the head of women’s sewing department and Mária Kuhnné Horváth.

At the end of the season, the jubilee members of the theatre were also thanked. Gáborné Irmike Földes hairdresser for 60 years, Erzsébet Kútvölgyi actor for 50 years, Gábor Presser musician and János Horinka head of lighting department for 45 years, Györgyi Mátyásné Boros deputy auditorium supervisor for 40 years, János Szlávik has been a stage manager for 35 years, Erik Wiesmeyer has been a stage manager for 30 years, Lászlóné Hodány has been a financial secretary for 25 years, Mónika Gereg has been a male tailor and István Madanecz upholsterer has been a loyal member of Vígszínház for 20 years.

At the end of the season, the actor Patrícia Puzsa will leave Vígszínház, Sára Varga-Járó will continue her professional practice at the theatre, joined by the student Ágota Gál Réka in the next season.

The Vígszínház's first premiere of the 2023/24 season will be The Glass Slipper on 23 September directed by János Mohácsi. The musical version of Pinocchio will be staged by Tamás Keresztes, the play Intrigue and Love by David Doiasvili, while Géza Hegedűs D. will direct Amadeus, Csaba Horváth The Liar at Pesti Színház.
