László Marton was born 80 years ago2023. 01. 06.
László Marton, the former director and director of the Vígszínház, whose name is associated with so many important and groundbreaking productions, was born 80 years ago.
To mark the occasion, we recalled a special production of his work, which you can watch for free for 24 hours on the Vígszínház Youtube channel.
György Spiró and János Másik's musical play As We Do was first performed in 1989 by the Vígszínház, directed by László Marton, starring Géza D. Hegedűs and Erzsébet Kútvölgyi. The choreographer of the performance was Zoltán Imre, the set designer was Csörsz Khell, the costume designer was Andrea Flesh.
"The music of János Másik often cries out during the lines of György Spiró's heroes, music that usually expresses the emotions of the heroes, and what happens to them in the meantime is often unbearably emotional. As We Do is, in this sense, a modern melodrama. It is also a melodrama about a marriage that has hit the rocks, a way of life that is hopeless, a quality of life that is unqualified. A private tragedy in a time of social turmoil. A bitter, frightening reality, disillusioned with new-found illusions. A private story played out between crumbling walls and crumbling frames. Is it contemporary? To love or not to love? As you like. I love it." Tamás Koltai
"Many wonderful tools have accumulated in the theatre over the millennia. The chorus has been replaced by a chorus master, other actors have joined them, dancing, singing, prose on stage, clowning, baroque machinery, basic stories have been worked out, set pieces have been created, the lighting revolution has taken place; That is why I do not believe in poor theatre, theatre without text and without conflict, because it is foolish to abandon what generations have patiently and inventively accumulated. And the bearer of all these wonders is man, the actor, whose inexpressible depths are revealed by music." György Spiró
